So I almost froze my fingers and toes off, but I finally managed to get a half-decent sunset shot of Tower Bridge, after many attempts that were foiled by clouds rolling over.

I’ve been meaning to visit City Hall and take in the view from London’s Living Room for ages. Finally got around to doing it!

Whilst driving back to London from Hereford a few days ago, I saw the most amazing sunset, with a range of colours from dark blue, through purple, red, orange to yellow. Just a shame that I had to enjoy it from the M5, rather than from a nice hilltop somewhere. Being a clear, bright and cold day today, I was hoping for something similar, but was somewhat disappointed. However, I had never taken in the view over the Thames from Richmond Hill before, so I wasn’t completely dissatisfied with my excursion this evening.

I took this whilst stood on the back of a Thames Clipper, travelling rapidly up the river from the O2 to Waterloo.

Taken from the banks of Molesey in south-west London.

Richmond Lock is the last lock on the Thames, and includes a tidal barrage, which makes up the majority of this shot. When the tide is in, the sluice gates are raised and boats can pass underneath. However, at other times they must make use of the lock, visible on the left of the photo. Here’s an overhead photo which will probably make things a bit clearer.

Granted, the sky is dull, but every time that I attempt to take a sunset photo of Tower Bridge, the clouds roll over. I decided a black background is nicer than a grey one.

Taken from the banks of Chiswick. This was a hard shot as the sky was so incredibly bright, so I took two exposures – one for the sky and one for the foreground and combined them in Photoshop. Unfortunately, I think the sky shot was still overexposed a bit.

This must be where old plastic bottles go when they die.
