So I almost froze my fingers and toes off, but I finally managed to get a half-decent sunset shot of Tower Bridge, after many attempts that were foiled by clouds rolling over.

Not the classic sunset sky that I was hoping for, but the blue was quite pleasing.

My first post for a while – apologies to those who had been following my daily updates. I managed to post a new photo to this blog every day for the first three months of the year, but lately I just haven’t had the time.

Anyway, I have just returned from a few days in Paris, which was lovely. Here is an often-photographed view, but this is an image that I am really proud of.

Granted, the sky is dull, but every time that I attempt to take a sunset photo of Tower Bridge, the clouds roll over. I decided a black background is nicer than a grey one.

I have always thought that this view provides a nice contrast between the old and the new in London. I still haven’t found a good way of capturing it. I think that I’ll have to investigate going up Tower Bridge.

On Sunday evening I travelled to the Pool of London, which is the stretch of the Thames between Tower Bridge and London Bridge. I was lured there (which is tricky, as I work there, and being lured to your workplace on a Sunday is tough) by the promise of some amazing lights at the Switched-On London festival.

I was, to be frank, completely underwhelmed. The website promised so much and yet failed to deliver. I should really have read the small print, which indicates that many of the designs on the website are just concepts.

Still, it wasn’t an entirely wasted trip – I came away with some shots. This is the first, a panoramic shot showing the whole Pool of London. Locals can try and spot the difference in the lighting…

Here’s a shot I’ve been meaning to take for a while. Getting up early was always the problem. However, as I was up at 6am yesterday for Shooting-All-The-Time Day, I thought that I’d make the riverbanks of Chelsea my first stop.

This is an HDR shot, made from 3 RAW files, I might post some non-HDR ones as part of my write-up of the day.
